    Hi everyone,

    In lieu of a birthday party I was wondering whether people might like to come to Bowness with me. It's the annual Windermere Air Show, which is free to attend (unless you want to look at the ground displays on the Glebe) and happens all above the lake.

    Ideally I'd like to go on the 25th July as that's the only day the Red Arrows are flying.

    Train from Lancaster 10.23 -> Windermere 10.58 = £11.90 return (at the moment)
    Bus from Windermere -> Bowness = £Unknown.

    - Take a picnic with us, sit somewhere with grass.*
    - Hire a rowing boat (or two, how popular am I..) and float about underneath some planes.*
    - Eat some ice cream.*
    - Visit a local drinking establishment. Or two.

    * Weather permitting.

    Bus from Bowness -> Windermere (essentially one an hour from 5pm onwards)
    Train from Windermere -> Lancaster (again, about one an hour from 6pm onwards)

    There are Manchester train options but the people who need them are clever enough to research

    If people don't want to bother, that's also fine, but I'll be going so I thought people might find it entertaining :-) I'm not planning on doing any kind of group booking, but if we could agree on times we can all congregate appropriately.

        Oh, and it will probably be worth getting the combined train and bus ticket, can't recall how much it it though

        I'm not positive about the train plus bus being the best offer.

        If we're only going to be getting the bus from the train station to the lake a return is only likely to be a couple of quid, and dayrider bus is about £6 if I remember correctly..

        Suppose it depends if you want the flexibility to go elsewhere or not.. I can't imagine there'd be any need to travel on any train other than from Lancaster to Windermere return...

        We can push things a bit later in the morning if you like, but that's the first real train and I wasn't sure of the programme. Red Arrows will be last in the day anyway ;-)

      I'm free that weekend, and I haven't been to an airshow since I was about 6 (probably also in the Lakes come to think of it).

      Oh, and J says he likes the sound of "boat-related hijinks" so I think you might have his vote. ;)

        I'd say shame you can't come, but I definitely think you've got the better end of the deal here so instead I'll just be quietly envious.

        I watched the one from last year on iPlayer, it looked like fantastic fun with Daleks and all sorts, and that didn't include Karen Gillan so you're onto a winner.

        Yep, still the plan - I'm reckoning we all meet at lancaster train station :-)

        I just did a double check, and the train still appears to exist according to the trainline website so as far as I know, this plan will work ;-)
